Psalm 33: 4-5, 18-19,20, 22

The refrain used for Psalm 33 is “The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord” and we might stumble to proclaim it because so often it feels like the earth is not full of God’s goodness, quite the opposite. In his book, “Prayers of Life” Father Michel Quoist lays before us a summary of sleep. The bodies of those who now sleep: the innocent body of a tiny infant, the abused body of the prostitute, the exhausted body of the labourer, the feverish body of the sick, the battered body of the poor and the weakened body of the elderly. All of these different bodies around the world held close to the heart of God; created by Him in their mother’s wombs, watched over by Him while they lie in silence, in the night that God created. All that God creates is precious and dear to Him. This is the earth’s goodness, and the earth is filled with it, if we have the wisdom to see it. Let us pray: O God, I trust in your goodness. Fill me with light that I may be blessed to see others as you see and not let them be categorized by my human weakness. Stretch the confines of my heart that I may become an icon of your goodness to those you put in my path. I ask this through Christ, Our Lord. Amen.
